It is necessary to attach importance to use of new technology and to R&D works in order to reduce the primary input and transportation costs from the point of view of increasing competitiveness of the mining sector in domestic market and abroad. Increasing employment of technical staff, providing with properly trained labor force that can accommodate with advanced technology and with a capacity to use such technology and, in this scope, improving the cooperation of the university and the sector in accordance with the needs of the latter is becoming more important in terms of achieving efficiency in the sector.

It is important to make market research in the sense of determination of strategies fitting to the changes by following closely both existing and the developed markets. In addition to this, it is necessary to make investment to improve the processed product capacity, product range and the quality, forming the marketing strategies and constituting effective distribution networks.

As a consequence of geological formation, our country possesses an important number of mine varieties and it is a rich country in terms of mineral resources. The most important minerals where Turkey has high competitiveness in mining sector in the world are boron, thorium, lignite, marble, magnesite, rare earth elements, zeolite, trona, barite, feldspar and sodium sulphate. There are 4.400 mineral deposits in Turkey except for petroleum and coal. The minerals obtained from these resources are used as raw material in various industries and the surplus is being exported.
