Leather is a sector in which hand labour is used frequently during almost all stages of production. Also since it does not have a standard form and is not readily suitable to necessities, preparation of raw materials in line with demands is also a significant production stage in the sector. Since the newness of devices used in production affects the quality and generally efficiency of the product, Turkish leather sector closely follows the changes occurring in production technology. The used technology is in a progressive condition in comparison with many competitor countries. China, India and Pakistan, which are some of the important leather confection countries, are highly behind Turkey in such terms.

Since leather raw material in Turkey is insufficient to respond to the requirements and quality expectation of leather confection manufacturers, the sector is dependent on import by 70-75 percent. Another important production input is workmanship and its rate within inputs is around 15-20 percent.
